It is six am, and I want to crawl back in bed. Today, I want to cancel my plans and hide under the covers. My early morning thoughts consume me.
I can’t get anything accomplished. I must be a disappointment to God. I am not smart. I have no purpose. My thoughts began to spiral, and I began to feel insane.
I grasp for any stability, so I flip open a devotion and hold my bible close to my body; maybe I’ll pick up a current bible study, or I think I will sit in silence.
Making a rational decision, even seems difficult. Some days seem to fall apart from the start.
The only thing I seem to accomplish is crying these words to God, “What’s wrong with me?”
Do your thoughts ever spiral out of control?
Where do you turn when everything around you makes no sense?
Instead of caving into my thoughts, I draw near to the One who holds my problems.
We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near, People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds. Psalms 75:1
Today, I listened. I hear a still, small voice that says, “Stand up and fight,” so I close my eyes, sing praises, and call out the name of Jesus. It draws me closer to him, reminding me of who I belong to. Who holds all the peace. Who takes every thought captive.
When everything seems out of control, He reminds us He keeps a firm foundation.
“When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the One who keeps its foundations firm.” Psalms 75:3
Somedays the only thing that seems to make sense is to be still before God and allow Him to take you by His hand.
Espesians 6:11 Use all the help that God gives us. Then you can be like a solider who fights against the devil. You must put on the whole armour that God gives to us. The devil attacks us in clever ways, and we need to be strong.
Suddenly, I’m no longer helpless. I feel like Jesus is by my side. I feel safe because the battle is His.
A warrior with armor. Just like King David.
God knows we need armor, and He wants us to be strong.
Esphesians 6:13 Because of that, take all the help that God gives, like its your armour. Then, when the bad time comes, you will be able to stand strongly. You will not fall. After you have finished everything, you will still be standing strongly in your place.
He wants us to keep our eyes on Him and tell others of His wonderful deeds. He is our steady hand and our firm foundation.
He takes care of His people, like a shepherd who takes care of his sheep. He picks up the young lambs and he carries them near to his heart. He carefully leads the mother sheep that have lambs. Psalms 40:11
I can remember when my children were learning to walk. I stood by them, holding their hands and protecting them against the fall. While I stood nearby, I encouraged them to stand on our two feet. I would cheer them as they took their next steps, trying to ensure they did not fall. I loved them enough to teach them independence while holding their hand.
You have given me your shield of victory. You right hand supports me; your help has made me great. Psalms 18:35
This is what a good father does. He creates a firm fountain on which we stand when the earth around us seems to be falling apart.
Praise Him and thank Him for His steady hand and being near because He fights for you.
